Why does a Privately owned Water Company spend Hundreds of Thousands on replacing a towns water provision network?
Guilty conscience?
Reinvestment?
Because it's the right thing to do?
Bentham for months has had closed roads with no notice, replacement of mains water pipes, which seems to be the latest 'polish' we have seen in Bentham over the past 12 months or so.
Investment by Entities (that have been caught unawares?) by the publicly announced Pollution issues caused by Angus Fire's 'alleged' breaches of it's environmental permits, (some thing that it's CEO strenuously denies despite the mountain of evidence to the contary), NYCC investing via "Bentham Boost", NYCC Highways Resurfacing Main Street (the first time in 35 years I am told), Angus Fire donating more money to local charities than it has in years and Yorkshire Water replacing mains water pipes all around Bentham, with "special piping" to "stop underground contamination" reaching the mains water supply.
To add to the secrecy or if you like 'conspiracy' there was no mention of any road closures or pre warning of work (to either residents or the council) and complaints about this to Yorkshire Water have gone un-answered.
When I was speaking directly to a source who had direct info on why this was happening, they wouldnt reveal what the contamination was, but, it was confirmed that the work was due to "ground contamination". Suspect? I think so.
In a time where Water Companies are being scrutinised for their waste, high water costs, large profits and Director and shareholder bonuses, Companies that are under consistant scrutiny with the threat of re-nationalisation hanging over them transparency would have been the best policy. Had it not been for the Companies earlier statement claiming that tap water in Bentham is not polluted with (Angus Fires) PFAS, this probably would have all blown over by now.
In fact I challenge Angus Fire and Yorkshire Water to provide past tests that show Bentham Tap Water was safe (by providing the original documentation in person or direct from the Testing company) which tests for all 48 species of PFAS identified in the Regulation 61 handed to Angus Fire last year. .
